I've seen this pop up on microsofts forum as well. Both the mem leak and wmiprvse.exe high cpu usage are well documented on avasts forum by people experiencing this. I've seen avast freeze up and take 30GB of ram. Avast for quite some time has had serious issues with wmiprvse.exe for no reason, and it has had memory leaks. Anyways I'm curious what your cpu idle is. I let my Avast premiere sub expire last month after not having used it half this year due to extensive testing and realizing how bad it is. Bitdefender is a higher rated av than avast. Now avast will result in an average 2% idle, where as windows defender and bitdefender idle at 1%. on average Avast would spike from the baseline 2% cpu at idle to to 5-8%. Whats your cpu? I have i7-4960x (6 core). Do you see wmiprvse.exe popping up to the top every 3 seconds or so? While Avast is running? Do you notice your cpu spiking usage every 3 seconds? Sort your processes in the taskmanager by cpu usage. Whats your cpu usage at idle, no browser open etc.
